Dancing Animal Forms, Learning the Color Wheel, basic shapes into forms by using color value. Leaning Shapes, Color and Value, Elementary Art, MiddleSchool Art

Today we worked on building on Lesson One Intro to Basic Art . We learned about Geometric Forms ( 3D figures), using chalk pastels to build value ( darkness and lightness of a color). Go to the store tab to purchase step by step class! . Thank you for all the support.

For younger students the K-3rd grade art teacher modified this project by tracing the shapes before hand on paper for the students. We did this project in a one hour class, but felt we rushed through a little. If your doing this at home, just know it will take a little over an hour. Focus on remining the students that they are building value using different colors of the chalk pastels, show them where the light source is coming from as they plan their shapes, where the core shadow is and the highlight of the form will be.

As you can see the above example, its an abstract bird. Notice the cast shadow on the table.
10) Spray the entire piece with fixatif spray to protect the art work, and enjoy your student’s work.

See you next week!

Above is my son, he’s in Ms. Crystal’s class, in 2nd grade. He loved this project and we framed one of his pieces. I just loved how the colors pop and the students learn forms, 3D forms, all about shading and building that value.
