Andrew Wyeth watercolor resist painting
Learning all about Andrew Wyeth and creating a painting inspired by this great American artist. I have the course on Teachers Pay teacher, you can go HERE to purchase class and support this teacher :) I’ll have the classes available to purchase on my website here soon. Thank you for your support and happy painting! There you will have all the step-by-step instructions, artist bio, samples of their work and so much more.
This is the first time I actually did watercolor resist to be honest. I mean, I’ve done the crayon watercolor resist, but never the masking fluid. Using the special tool to pick up the masking fluid when it was dry was really neat for the students and we will be doing more watercolor resist in the future.
Some students were not into this project. BUT, some of them raved about it and even presented this one as their favorite for the year. I have the students present at the beginning of the class their favorite works as the year progressed. I love incorporating some public speaking into class time. I think this was challenging for some students because they wanted this perfect barn on this perfect land scape, but that’s not art. Art is about creating and seeing something in a whole new lite. Andrew Wyeth spoke of these everyday life things he encountered in a deeper way. He studied his subjects and then painted almost the inner part of them. Including the feel of winter and branches. It comes to life in a different way., Not a photograph way. there’s a mood, and that mood draws one in. .His work to me is beautiful, even though I’m a “give me all the color” type of gal.
Below are works from the students. Remember, I teach 3rd-5th grade. This project can extend to middle schoolers as well.
Below are links to Amazon. I really do recommend having the erasers available for furure classes. I cut mine in half for smaller hands.
