A Little Town Called Dundee, OR

I'm all about taking my boys on "exploration" days, at least once a week (homeschooling perks).  We like to discover parks, shops, food/coffee, and near by towns that wait to be known. We live in Portland, so I feel there is always something new to behold, a street that is out of this world, or a waffle place that will blow your mind!

Today we explored a little town just outside of Portland.  Dundee, Oregon is a beautiful town bustling with wineries. Sure, not a place to come and wine hop when the kids are in tow, but there are other things to do as well.

We went there for another reason, and that reason is kiwi berries. Have you had them?  They are these tiny kiwis.  Well, they taste like a kiwi/grape/gooseberry/blueberry.  Absolutely a must try if you see them in a local market.  I saw some at New Seasons the other day too, however, picking them is way more exciting. The farm we went to is called HB&K farm. They have regular kiwis and kiwi berries.

My third grader, who I home school is learning all about American History this year and in that area, outside of Portland is Champoeg State Heritage Area.  It's a state park that is located on a pioneer town that was wiped out by a flood in the 1800's.  The cool thing is that it's the site where Oregon's first provisional government was formed by a historical vote in 1843.  I love history, so to go to sites that set the stones of the state I live in, is pretty neat.  To share that with my boys is priceless to me.

We wanted to spend a bit more time in town, but the weather was way too nice to leave the park. We still want to come back and check out a few more spots that were on my list of "to do's in this town.  I'll add to it when we come back through again :)
