Pittock Mansion, Portland Must See, Portland, OR, Travel Portland
I love History. Ancient History, Art History, my City History… One of my favorite things to do in Portland is to take a walk with a tour book and read/see all the historic structures left in Portland. and then stumbling upon Pittock Mansion! I had been there multiple times growing up in Portland and had taken my wedding party up there for our wedding photoshoot, but I’ve never explored inside. Never read or heard about the historic significance of this place in Portland and never really cared. Just thought it was so beautiful.
Side note: Check your local Library for a “culture pass” and start exploring your city!
That’s how we toured the Mansion. We got culture passes form the library and took the family on an adventure and learned a bit more about our city. I encourage you to do so as well.
Here’s a bit about the place from their website: pittockmansion.org
Built in 1914, Pittock Mansion tells the story of Portland’s transformation from pioneer town to modern, industrialized city through the history and legacy of one its most influential families, the Pittocks. Saved from demolition by dedicated citizens in 1964, the Mansion and surrounding estate was purchased by the City of Portland and opened to the public as a historic house museum.
In 2007, the nonprofit Pittock Mansion Society took over museum operations. The Society works in collaboration with Portland Parks & Recreation to operate and preserve the historic buildings. Pittock Mansion is supported by general admission, memberships, donations, grants, and museum store purchases.
