Mineral toothpaste, kid approved !
When my son Jasper was four months old, an awkward little yellow piece of what looked like a tooth started to come in on the upper left side of his mouth. Typically, the bottom teeth come in first- developmentally, so I had his pediatrician look at it on his six month check up. Because it was so yellow and wasn't quit a tooth shape, she said it was probably a bone fragment that will just fall out. At that time he had already gotten his bottom two teeth and his upper middle two as well. At ten months the yellow tooth was completely out and started to brown and look decayed. I used an all natural tooth paste, brushed the thing 2-3 times a day to prevent further damage. It was rapidly decaying. I took him to a pediatric dentist who said he would have to put Jasper under anesthesia in the hospital and pull the tooth to prevent further decay and damage to the adult tooth above. I went to get a second opinion and was told by another pediatric dentist that anesthesia at that age is just too risky and that I should wait till he's two years old. She didn't think there would be any tooth left by that time, at the rate it was decaying. Naturally I started researching, reading books to educate myself on all things "cavities". I added cashews to his diet that research shows has the ability to rebuild enamel. That's when I started to make my own toothpaste for him with clay and essential oils and minerals and such.
Cutting out sugar is a challenge for me. It's just always in the house. If I did that from the very beginning there would have been less damage to his teeth. Sure, I'm started to cut sugar out now, and replace it with xylitol, maple syrup and honey. I also added grass fed butter to my boys diets as well. There is a lot of research out there, and testimonials of people that saw huge results in healing cavities. Then there are essential oil that help heal cavities as well, like Clove, Frankincense, Myrrh, and Helichrysum essential oils.
Here's what I use to make tooth paste for the boys.
- 1/2 - 3/4 cup Bentonite Clay ( click Here for a link)
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 Tsp salt (my kids don't like it salty)
- 1 tsp Xylitol ( I don't always put it in actually, but I did start with more sweetness and made it less sweet as I went with new batches)
- Trace minerals ( I used 1/4 of that bottle in the picture) I have also taken calcium in a pill form and ground them down and added in. I was out with this batch and used the trace minerals instead. I like that better because the boys get more minerals this way. I got it at new seasons.
- Frankincense, Myrrh, Clove, and helichrysum essential oil. 40 drops total. I usually do 20 drops clove, 15 drops frankincense, 5 drops Myrrh and sometimes I add a drop or 2 of Helichrysum. Order your essential oils HERE or sign up for a membership to get them at whole sale price.
- You can add a Tbsp of charcoal powder as well, or about 5 capsules, I've been doing batches with it.
- Mix all the ingredients with distilled water, adding a table spoon at a time to get a smooth tooth paste consistency.
I have tried to use coconut oil instead of the water. My kids don't like the consistency and I don't like that it separates.
Guys, fermented cod liver oils is pretty amazing as well in healing cavities, but I can't get my kids to down it. Maybe once they're older we can do capsule form. You don't want to over do on the cod liver oil, everything moderation, read the dietary instructions, you don want to damage the kids liver.
Awesome article that talks about reversing tooth decay !
But honestly you guys, we are what we eat and I know we can assist in our own healing from what we consume. Sure, Jasper has bad teeth, but I can do something to slow down that decay process.
