Traveling with kids - what to pack on the plane

Traveling with kids - what to pack on the plane

Well, I gotta say - the boys did really well on the plane! it took a lot of planning on my part to make sure each one ( including the biggest kid of them all, VLAD) will be happy for our short flight.  Even when we fly all day and have multiple lay overs, the boys seem to do ok.  I've learned they need options. Options with snacks, toys, books, movies. They will be busy and mama will be sane by the end of the trip.

Most air lines these days charge for a carry on, but not a personal bag, so get the kids their own back packs and pack them with snacks and extra clothes and such.

Why buy those $5 potato chips, just bring a bunch of snacks. Then, baby is allowed to have water bottles and milk! wahoo.  I packed three bottles, yes, they asked who's they were, we said "babies".  They had to check to waters and the milk.  Jasper has a milk allergy so we had to bring our own milk for him from home any ways.

I'll start with snacks, most important.

I always bring yogurt because everyone seems to have issues toileting on vacation and some probiotics help.  Cookies are a must. and not pictures - cut fruit.  Always bring fruit, cheese and crackers too for a longer flight.

For the baby

  • water, milk
  • hat, extra outfit, sweater, diapers, wipes, blanket
  • snacks, bottle
  • favorite toy ( Oren's is this adorable grey bunny that he is super attached to right now)
  • the baby can have his/her own diaper bag with all air lines in addition to parent's personal bag
  • we also brought a stroller and both car seats (checked in the car seats) these are at no extra charge
  • Extra little toys
  • Melaluca ( tea tree), and lavender essential oil.  I put Lavender behind his ears and big toe to keep him calm, and melaluca on the bottle of his feet to protect him from germs and such.  I did it on all of us.
  • during take of or landing I nursed Oren and he did fine with the pressure on his ears.  The other two chewed gum.

For the toddler:

  • Extra clothes - Because accidents are bound to happen with his age and all the excitement of air planes and distractions. Undies, jeans/shorts, t-shirt, hoodie
  • He had to have his sunglasses and hat because big brother did and he needed them as well
  • Books he hadn't seen in a while or a new one is great, sticker books, coloring pages
  • favorite toy and cars, Jasper super into dinosaurs these days, so that was a must to grab. T-Rex needs a vacation as well
  • Face wipes, tissues, blankets are a good idea for this age
  • Gum are candy that is a chewable or cut fruits on ascend and descend are a must to keep those ears popping and no pressure, scream inducing head aches for everyone on the plane.

Big boys are the easies.

  • Books - Simon has a devotional that he loves, I'll post a link on the bottom.  Little activity books are great as well
  • I always pack him a hoodie and this kid loves Nike caps and pretty much wont leave the house with out one.  Then he throws it in the laundry every time he wears it, why? I take it out and put it on his laundry pile to put away.  Goodness.
  • Simon, my husband and I took Doterra's OnGaurd beadlets to boost our immune system

Lastly, but most importantly, you must, MUST bring an Ipad, lap top, any device you want, downloaded with movies and ear phones for each child.  We got an adaptor to plug in two ear phones into am ipad mini and it worked great! The boys were entertained for a solid Pinocchio running time.
